In a 2022 interview with Tosin Clegg for ThisDay, he separated “jamborees”, which crowd many acts onto one bill, from “specials”, which he says is what he has always done. In April 2017, during a row over a Big Brother Naija joke at AY’s live show, Bovi tweeted that a comedian can joke about anything as long as sensibilities are not offended. Replies warned him against joking about rape and disability. He answered that “comedy is a corrective tool too” and shared a clip from his 2014 Man on Fire in which, he said, he used jokes about rape to speak against it. He played Victor Smith in the wedding comedy It’s Her Day, which premiered on 9 September 2016 and grossed 55 million naira, and took the lead role of Osaze in 4-1-Love the same year.
